The proposals for the major expansion of the Lakeside complex, which were given outline consent by Portsmouth City Council’s planning committee on 9 December, provide exciting opportunities for regional businesses wanting bespoke office space in an attractive setting with the added benefit of wide-ranging on-site facilities.
In total, the proposals for the site’s phased future development comprise almost 1 million sq ft, including new office buildings alongside the lake, a 70,000 sq ft hotel and conference centre and facilities for businesses located at the site, ranging from small shops and restaurants to a new medical centre.
Highcross technical director, Keith Woods, says the complex has the potential to become the region’s premier business location, meeting the needs of the M27 corridor and beyond: “We’ve already had interest in the phase one opportunities and now that we have outline consent, we are keen to move ahead with our plans. It is a long-term project which we believe will have a very positive impact on Portsmouth’s economy and ability to attract businesses to the city.”
The Lakeside North Harbour complex currently houses Highcross’ 1000 Lakeside office building and IBM’s UK headquarters.
Highcross are planning to start work on the development in 2010, with the first phase likely to include the construction of a car dealership, hotel/conference centre and medical centre, as well as new office space designed to meet the needs of potential occupiers.
Keith Woods adds: “This is going to be an exceptional scheme, offering companies the opportunity to be part of a prestigious, vibrant and varied business community, enjoying the highest standards of architectural and landscape design, excellent transport infrastructure, and commitment to sustainability. Lakeside has a great location, right at the gateway to Portsmouth and we are delighted that we are now able to take forward our vision for the future of this landmark office development.”
Agents for Highcross at Lakeside are Vail Williams and Hughes Ellard.
