Fareham covers an area of almost 30 square miles and has a population of 109,500. It lies between Portsmouth Harbour in the east and the River Hamble in the west. This coastal belt is positioned between the Solent and the South Downs where the environmental quality and recreational potential of the Borough and its environs provide high quality living conditions to support its business potential.
Fareham’s workforce is highly skilled in comparison to both national and regional averages and has higher than average proportions working in managerial and professional occupations. Its economic success is anchored by a number of major employers including The Office for National Statistics (1,000 employees), NATS, the air traffic control service (2,500) and HMS Collingwood.
The Borough has a diverse economy and a balanced mix of legacy occupiers and modern business parks that has been a dynamo at the heart of the local economy. Segensworth Employment Area and Solent Business Park (Whiteley) around Junction 9 of the M27 motorway have been the generators of business and employment growth attracting major inward investors and high profile names such as Telsis, Turbomeca (Safran Group), Meggitt Avionics, CooperVision, SpecSavers, Northrup Grumman, Chemring, Gemalto and TÜV Product Service.
For the future, the growth agenda remains firmly in place. Development attention is currently focused on the remaining phases of Solent Business Park at Whiteley and at the former Daedalus airfield. Beyond 2016 the focus will shift to the Strategic Development Area north of Fareham that is being planned to accommodate up to 10,000 houses and 121,000 sq metres of new business floor space.
Future development, coupled with the environmental quality and recreational potential of the Borough makes Fareham the ideal business location.
